Stalling on Flu Shots and Other Vaccination Thoughts
Today is the day that I’ve been avoiding all year. The day I must take my children in for flu shots, or they’ll be ejected from day care. I have until 12/31 every year to get them their flu shots and every year I delay for as long as possible. Why? Because when P was a baby, there was…

Act of Kindness #5: Gifts and Cards for our Day Care Providers
And here we are at #5, but last is certainly not least.
There are a lot of people involved in taking care of our children. Maybe it’s just our day care center (possible), maybe we acknowledge too many people (doubtful), but we try to remember everyone who contributes to our children’s care and development. Not everyone contributes equally, however, and…

Act of Kindness #4: Donate Coats
This one was the easiest of all of our acts of kindness. We didn’t have to do any shopping, or cooking, or planning at all. We just looked in the closet, picked out the coats that P and I seldom wear, and drove them over to the coat drive hosted by P’s ballet class. The coats will be donated…

Not only because the quality of oatmeal is poor (it’s overly overprocessed and thus not as nutritious as rolled oats or steel-cut oatmeal), but because there is too much sugar and other junk. As it turns out, making rolled oats doesn’t take a whole lot longer than reconstituting the instant stuff….

Act of Kindness #3: Cookies for Sanitation Workers & Mailman
We’re skipping ahead to #3, as the library is closed today and we can’t complete #2 (which is “Donate new books to our beloved local library”). Number 2 is on the agenda for tomorrow.
So, #3: “Bake cookies for the garbage men, recycling men, and mailman.” To show our appreciation of some of the service men in town, I baked…

The MF-ing Elf on the MF-ing Shelf
Are you doing Elf on the Shelf for your kids? We’re not. I don’t feel bad about it at all. In fact, I’m an asshole about it.
What’s Elf on the Shelf? This game is all the rage nowadays. Here is the official description but the gist of it is that it’s this hide-and-seek game in which you hide…
